Belonging & Friendship
Who feels seen, who gets missed, and what it means to make room.
Book One in The Beacon Keepers series
A middle-grade novel about friendship, belonging, courage, trust, and the quiet work of becoming someone others can count on.
About the book
When a mysterious note sends Leo Morales, Jada Chen, and Max Vega to Ziggy’s Skate & Drone, they find a cracked compass, a lighthouse sketch on an old pizza box, and a challenge bigger than any school competition: build a place where everyone belongs, matters, and can shine.
Their first workspace is an overlooked basement art room with flickering lights, abandoned desks, and the smell of at least one lunch that did not survive. Somehow, it becomes theirs. As the Beacon Keepers grow into a community lab at Saltwind Bay Middle School, they use observation, design, data, and student voice to help more kids feel seen.
But pressure builds. A polished rival team is watching. Trust gets tested. And when an integrity crisis threatens everything they have created, the crew must decide what matters most: winning the Spring Club Challenge or protecting the trust that made their work real.

About the author
G.M. Samuelson spent nearly three decades in operations leadership and safety, and more than a decade coaching youth sports. Across both, he saw the same truth: strong teams are built on trust, courage, communication, and people willing to show up for one another.
He writes middle-grade fiction about friendship, belonging, integrity, leadership, and the quiet work of becoming someone others can count on. The Beacon Keepers: First Light is the first book in a series created to help young readers explore leadership, teamwork, trust, and purpose through story.
